Three in one
2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all, amen.
Although there is only one God, He exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
God is one, but exists in three distinct persons, we call this the Trinity, it means "three in one". The word Trinity does not appear in the Bible, but the existence of God as three persons is clear in Scripture.
Try the Old Testament of the plurality of God can be found in the first verse: "In the beginning God ..." (Gen 1: 1) the Hebrew word for God is Elohim, a plural noun. Isaiah 42: 1 speaks of the Messiah: "Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights, I have put my Spirit on him, he will bring justice to the nations" Messiah says in Isaiah 48:16 "the Lord God sent me and his Spirit" The New Testament is more explicit about the triune nature of God. After the baptism of Jesus, the Spirit of God descended upon Him like a dove and the Father said: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I have pleased" (Matthew 3:17) The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are together in the same scene.
Jesus said, "I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Counselor to be with you forever-the Spirit of truth, whom the world can not receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him because He abides with you and will be in you (Jn 14: 16-17). Paul closes 2 Corinthians saying, "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (v13 -14) Peter says that believers are chosen "by the presence of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1: 2)
So God is one, but God is three. This is a profound mystery that no human illustration can be described adequately and no scientific explanation can try. Trinity is something we must take by faith, because God has shown in Scripture.
